NewCastle is on the first and top floor of a building standing directly on the waterfront, in the quiet hamlet of Grumo in Lierna.
Between the balcony and the lake there are no roads, no buildings and no other houses. The view is completely open and the water seems to begin just beyond the railing.
Below the house lies one of the most striking and unspoilt beaches on Lake Como: white pebbles, clear water and a wide view of the mountains. A quiet place, far from the atmosphere of the busier resorts, known mostly to people who really know this part of the lake.
You can walk out of the house already in your swimsuit and be on the shore straight away.
The apartment
Renovated, modern
and entirely on the lakefront
NewCastle is a recently renovated, bright apartment furnished in a contemporary style. It sits on the first and top floor of the residence, with sloping ceilings, skylights and large openings facing the lake.
It sleeps up to six and has two double bedrooms, a sofa bed in the mezzanine, a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom with shower.
The covered balcony looks straight out over the water. It has a table and chairs and it is the most special place in the house: here you can eat outside looking at the lake, with nothing interrupting the view.
In the morning it is the perfect spot for breakfast. During the day the light keeps changing on the water. In the evening the sun goes down right in front of the house. It is where the days at NewCastle begin and end.

on the Lecco branch
NewCastle is in Grumo, a small and quiet hamlet of Lierna facing directly onto the eastern branch of Lake Como.
Here the lake still keeps an authentic feel: a beach of white pebbles, a bar on the shore, a restaurant across the road and the mountains dropping down to the water.
Lierna lies between Lecco and Varenna and makes an ideal base for visiting Bellagio, the historic villas and the best known villages of the lake, coming back afterwards to the quiet of Grumo.

Can I book direct, without going through Airbnb?
Yes — that's why this site exists. Check the free dates on the calendar, message us on WhatsApp or by email, and we confirm. You don't pay the platform's booking fee.
How much does a week cost?
It depends on the season, the number of nights and how many of you there are. We'd rather quote you properly than publish a rate that then changes: send us your dates and we'll reply with the exact price, generally within a few hours.
Is the pool always open?
It's open approximately from 1 June to 30 September, subject to the residence rules and seasonal conditions. It's the residence pool, on the lakefront, with a sun deck and loungers, reserved for guests staying here.
Is the beach really in front of the house?
Yes. The building is on the shore, in the Grumo hamlet, and the garden runs down to the water. There's a bar on the beach and a restaurant right across the road.
Is there parking?
Yes: a private, free parking space in the residence garage. In a Lierna summer that's a real advantage.
Can I get there without a car?
Yes. Lierna has its own station on the Milan–Lecco–Sondrio–Tirano line: a little over an hour from Milano Centrale, twenty minutes from Lecco. From the station it's about a twenty-minute walk.
How many people can sleep here?
Up to six: two double beds in the bedrooms and a sofa bed in the mezzanine. A cot, a travel cot and a high chair are available on request.
How does check-in work?
We do it in person: we agree the time with you, hand over the keys and show you the place. The window is 4 pm to 9 pm and check-out is by 10 am. For different times, just ask.
Is there a tourist tax?
Yes, the municipality of Lierna charges €2 per person per night, paid in cash on arrival. Any exemptions are set by the municipality; we confirm the exact amount before you book.
Can I work from here?
There's Wi-Fi and a dedicated workspace in a room with a door. Plenty of guests stay longer for exactly that reason.
